Serving American Veterans and their families from all branches of military service since 1920, supporting causes including Americanism, POW/MIA, VAVS, Child Welfare, Youth Sports, Carville Star ⭐, Nurses Training and other community events.

Eligibility:
Membership is by invitation and open to all Honorably Discharged Veterans and all Military Personnel currently serving the United States Armed Forces 🎖️🇺🇸, per a 2008 change to Article IV of la Societe's constitution. Combat service is not required for membership.
From the beginning, La Société only allowed men into its ranks, even though many women were veterans in their own right and thus, could have been eligible. But that changed at the 2006 National Convention, when the majority of delegates present voted to allow women into the ranks for the first time. The 40et8 also has a very active branch (La Femmes) of veteran's wives who established their own branch within La Société, in 1963, who help support the voyagers and the national organization's causes as well.

La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (English: "The Society of Forty Men and Eight Horses"; usually shortened to Forty and Eight), is an organization of U.S. veterans with headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was originally founded by Joseph W. Breen in March 1920 as an honor society for American Veterans intested in brotherhood and sisterhood, Americanism, giving back to those in need, and promote positivity!📯🚂🇫🇷🇺🇸

The La Societe De Femme is an organization formed in 1963 and associated with La Societe Des Quarante Hommes et Huit Cheveau (40/8), made up of female members affiliated with Voyageurs Militaire & Veterans. We have been confused with the 8&40 and 4&20 of the American Legion & Auxiliary, which we are not part of. Each of our units and officers are named after the French Railroad. Our units and titles parallel the Voyageurs except that each unit is called Cabane (Caboose). All of our programs are the same as the 40et8, which aids the Voiture and works toward the betterment of La Societe as a whole. To be a member you must be 18 years of age and be affiliated with a 40et8'er, an American Legion Member or a Veteran. Our Dames of the Cabanes 🇨🇵🚂🇺🇸, are very active in all of our programs.
